San Diego

Staying with D. Brian Nelson is always a pleasure - I not sure whether it is solely because enjoy his company (....he insists that he is a complete and total hermit who dislikes all people, is actually very lovely company) or if it because I enjoy his little hole-in-the-wall home that gets soft lighting in the mornings....

What I do know, is that I remembered on my way to his place that Don lives just about as frugally as you can possibly get.... just-bare-balls, plain and simple - With no expectations of him having food in the fridge - nor requiring him to, I pulled my car into a Quickie-Mart and bought me some Ramen Noodles for dinner. Only to learn upon arrival - yeaaaa, Don doesn't have a kitchen.... : ) I just love it.. So he took me out to dinner at BK and we did cheese burgers instead...

The only thing that Don does spend his money on would be the things that make him happy (as it should be).... photography (film, cameras, developing), fast motorcycles (owns two), and guns (owns several). It was actually really quite fascinating to watch, he showed me how he measures out and makes his own ammunition - how it can take hours and hours to do..... Looking back, I see that as being either extremely therapeutic or absolutely aggravating.

Ramen noodles. Truly, the last resort meal of every American College student. When in doubt, Ramen. But, burgers will always trump boiled water. What do like with your Ramen noodles? I usually empty out the spice rack. Is San Diego as nice as everyone says it is?

You - I only like one kind of Ramen... The Beef flavored one. And I like it just plain. Simply delicious by itself... : ) But then again, I have not actually eaten Ramen in two years, so maybe it is gross and I just cannot remember... I will let you know when I find a stove and some hot water... : )

You know, I have never spent enough time in the actual city of San Diego to come up with a good answer for that one - everytime I visit, I work in the suburbs - and the suburbs are nice, but still - just suburbs when it comes down to it. Matt jogged across half the city once - he said it was really beautiful.

Hey London: beautiful note you got there. I got mushy too on your behalf. Doesn't it feel neat when people care about what you're doing?

As for the Ramen, my teenager loves them. Plain - she throws out the powder, sometimes stirring in a small handful of shredded cheese...
