Gumbo, Kitties, and Ben-Gays...?

Shreveport, Louisiana! Home to Red-River Riverboat Gambling, a city which transformed their bankrupt Mall into this sickeningly large Baptist Church (Super WalMart of Churches - never saw a sight quite like it)! If you remember, last time I was in Louisiana.... a very wonderful photographer/ friend gave me the keys to his Condo in NOLA..... although I enjoyed the city and all it's stories - I was not planning on returning to Louisiana unless it was mardi gras season or something. Too many other sites to see....

.....But there was SunArcher Photography - wooing me with tales of Gumbo and Kitties and a Sofa Bed - like a moth to flame, you know? I left Hot Springs and detoured to Shreveport.

Tim's house was a nice stop-off. Got introduced to all kinds of new southern foods (many with names, I still think he was making up). On the table below we have.... gumbo, rice, Nehi - peach soda, Ben-Gays, and some southern style ribs.... in the very least, I ate pretty damn well. Tim can cook some yummy food, even if you cannot pronounce half of it... : )

Shot all day - which is always a hard thing for me. After about three hours, I start drifting off..... But we changed locations six times, which helped a lot. Lets see, we shot in his street, his backyard, down an abandoned street with his bike (the police that check trucks or something showed up - they just told us to leave), an airforce base, a bank, and this crazy murky pond thing that didn't work out as well as I saw in my head..... just a murky creepy pond....

It is always nice to shoot with someone who is still completely excited over photography - I mean, like little kid, almost jumping up and down excited..... I love that. It keeps you going and puts you in a good mood....

I am going to steal Tim's wife away from him.... and it is just that simple.....

Now I am in Dallas - staying with Randy and Mr. Kitty..... for some reason this place seems like a second home. Last time I was here, Matthew was with me. I remember when he crawled into bed the first night - he said, "Your life is just insane. I cannot believe you just sleep in a different house every night.... what if they come in a kill you or something..." Ha, and that just made me giggle.... I love this place. Randy is great company, he is a dancing man, we watch American Idol together, he lets me sleep in until 11am.... let me tell you, if you can sleep-in at someone's house until 11am and still feel welcome - that place is a good place to be.

Ok, today is my day off - I have errands to run. Must pay speeding ticket for FL.... must! Enjoy your whatever-day-it-happens to be today.... !!!!

Happy Working Song.... and Oaklawn Race Track

.... in the past week I have visited Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and now - Texas. There has been a lot of driving time and in between all that driving - a lot of shooting time. This particular week - I have really enjoyed the busy-ness.... kept my mind elsewhere - centered on just the photography and all the road-tripping. I have appreciated more moments this week than I have in the past four months...

Friends and family are all a little pissed that I have not called - sorry about that. I turned my phone off for the week.... I do not like my cell phone right now....

I left Little Rock hoping to go soak in some of the Baths at Hot Springs (I LOVE hot springs... I have them bookmarked for every state I visit)..... The roads are a little strange in Hot Springs, AR though - they kind of weave in and out, around in a circles. Neat town though, Route 66 is still alive and doing well in many areas. Somehow, weaving in and around the roads, I managed to locate the Arlington Hotel (Al Capone's favorite hotel in the area) which had a neat little spa... I passed up the hotel, though, to go check out the thoroughbred racetrack (actual photo of OakLawn Racing Track below). Again, I got kind of disoriented with all the roads and turn offs for the track.... so I ended up pulling into the stables. Maybe it was the out-of-state plates or something, but they definitely made a mistake and just waved my car in. I got to watch the race from the point-of-view that the photo was taken. Eventually some jockies came over, trying to figure out what I was doing, we struck up conversation .... I never knew how tiny jockies are. They are so itty bitty and so talented. I have never learned so much in a single day - I learned how to pivot a race horse, how to gamble, where the horses go after they are no longer racing.... they explained the track, the different kind of races, what the score boards were about. It was the most entertaining mistake I have made in months..... Eventually as the guys were getting ready for the 10th race or something, I made my way to the actual track.... I made a bunch of new friends, and this cute little Grandma and I bet on a horse together.... I filmed a little part of the race. Perhaps I will put it in my blog this Friday.....

Huntsville - Memphis - Little Rock

Forced myself through the shoot with DK - drinking far too much cold medicine and popping too many Excedrin. It was well worth it though....... ten hours after our shoot together, Dennis flew to FT Laud to instruct on Don's SouthBound Fetish Workshop... that means waiting patiently for photos.... for a long long time....

Memphis is the scariest city I have ever been to. I tried to make the most out of it - I went to Beale Street, the Pink Palace, and the Memphis Zoo.... But this place is nothing but a run-down, racist, poverty stricken hole of scum, somewhere down near the Bible Belt..... If you ever have the chance visit - don't do it!

I do not know why, but I ran into the strangest situations when stopping for gas. First time, a bunch of uneducated young farmhands surrounded my car - threatening that the, "Niggers" were going to take me away and rape me. Now, I do not know about "niggers" but I was so freaked out by the uneducated white-dudes leaning on my car. I took off doing eighty.....And the second time, I pulled into the gas station... and this handsome-looking black guy gave me the up-and-down look (you know that look)... and a white kid walked right up to him, I did not even see the kid, .... he just punched him in the face. It came out of no-where..... "Dumb Nigger looking at a white girl..... Go home to your Nigger family." I was just as stunned as the black guy, I had no idea what had just happened.... I spent the rest of the day feeling bad, that I got some random guy punched in the face......

Couchsurfing a Memphis commune/collective also = another world..... Dumpster Diving and Woofing and all that..... cool stuff....... Had a great time getting to participate in it for a night or two. But I do like hot water and clean sheets a few nights a week...... I love the hippie life, but I am not that raw.... : )

Envy gave me ThermaFlu...

Supposedly, there are only two kinds of elves in the world (Keebler and Santa's Helpers or something), but I swear there are some other little elves out, tucked away in beautiful pristine forest, creating the magical dust that is ThermaFlu...... Magical. Just add it to hot water, drink it's lemon-y goodness, and your fever breaks, your voice will come back, breathing will still be an option, and the blisters will be things of the past.

.... shake that sickness off.....

Talk about vivid nightmares in the dark, though. I could barely breathe last night (oh-so-stuffy), so all my dreams were about being strangled, smothered, choked, and sat on by fat people in those black and white, striped prison outfits.... really strange, twisted stuff... I woke up at 5am and could not fall back asleep.

I wanted to thank everyone who offered to drive out and help me.... haha. It was really unexpected. Literally received twelve emails in my Gmail box last night, one from a photographer all the way down in New Orleans willing to make the drive.... that kind of support, although I would never use it, really makes me feel a little bit better, being alone, on the road all the time... it was very appreciated......

Anyways, I am feeling a little bit better, but still not 100%. So, regrettably, I had to cancel the remaining work for Nashville this morning (to those of you I was going to work with, I am very sorry.... but take my word for it, you do not want to waste your time photographing me this way). Headed back down to Huntsville this afternoon to get a million hours of sleep and then, in the morning, I am shooting no-matter-what with DK - he's my Valentine's Day present to myself... I will make myself un-sick.... just watch. I am magic, like the ThermaFlu elves...

The Up-Chuck machine .....

I have not been this sick in years - I have a fever near 103, I can barely walk, can barely see, I have fever blisters .... I cannot even get to the pharmacy because I might crash my car. All by myself - It is actually quite scary. Even worse than being sick, though..... I am supposed to work with DK Thursday morning - and if I have to cancel on him, I am going to kill somebody.....

Nashtown - Nashburg - Nashville-town

Nashville-town
is my favorite city
.... ever!

...And that is how it is.

I love how diverse this place is.... You have the Grand Ol Opry on the left, a bunch of skinheads with metal in their faces on the right, seventy Bible preaching churches sprawled out in front of you, and someone swing dancing to bluegrass tunes in your footsteps.... It is new, fresh, it has history, culture, you want to whistle a tune - the place is full of style....

Things have been looking up..... you might have guessed that last month was probably the most painful month of modeling I have ever had. Very few jobs, modeling rates got cut, tons of lame-ass photographers, weird sleeping arrangements, bad experiences, bad weather, negative people ruining my mindstate.... to make it worse, while in Birmingham, my laptop crashed. I woke up horrified to find the Blue Screen of Death staring me in the face. Spent all day in the comp-shop, freaking out that my entire life would be lost (...schedule, contacts, photos, writings, letters, gps, my family slides...)..... It was like a family member was in surgery. All alone in Alabama, without a schedule, without a purpose, a total mess......

But hell yes! Those mother-fuckers fixed it!!.... which means that, I once again have purpose!! The next month is going to go by fast... It is a good mix of old-time friends and talented photographers (which is all this girl needs...)

What else is new? Hmmmmm..... I did not get to see any tornadoes.... but I did meet a guy who named his Fish "Pig" and that just makes me giggle....

Isobel Wren bought a website called fivenakedmodels.com (cause she is brilliant) and I joined in to be one of five models who will doing a weekly update on youtube .... it is just going to be a dorky fun thing which you will be able to participate in - asking questions, daring models, seeing what a day for us is like, stuff like that. I have been filming some footage. The teaser is going to go up next week.... so stay tuned for that.....

Shooting with Mike Hickey tomorrow for Garage Glamour..... You have no idea how awesome this guy is, not just as a photographer, but as a person..... he is one of those people you wish you were related to because you hope that their awesomeness will rub off on you.... oh I Want to Be Like Mike.

Tornadoes....?

Cows are going to fly, it is going to rain frogs!!!! Tornadoes! - Check out Weather.com for Birmingham and Huntsville...... : ) I had to freshen up on my "What to do if you are driving and you see a tornado" .... if you were interested..... you are supposed to get out of your car and lie in a ditch with something over you to protect your neck and shoulders.... : )

You can see me now, right?

Happy Trails!!

"Excuse me...Miss?"

"Excuse me, Miss.... Did you know that you were doing 95 mph in a 70?"
"I was speeding Sir - but I was not doing 95 - I have driven it all over the country, over 30,000 miles, I know my car - it taps out at 85mph..."
"You were doing 95"
"No I was not.... I was doing 85."
"95..."
"85..."
"95....."
"80.....oh whatever!"
"Yea, whatever, here's your ticket...."

I was SO aggravated because I could care less about the ticket - but seriously, my car does not go above eight-five. Officer McBradley was one of those troopers without radar, he must have guessed my speed as I drove by .... young, bold, bored.... there goes another $280.... You know, I have only had two speeding tickets in my life - and both happened here in FL....

Happier note, the Modelmayhem Tampa Bay Meet and Greet was a lot of fun.... by far the most organized, well thought out location, I have seen to-date. The gathering was held at RAW, a little posh sushi bar, down in Ybor City. Arrived minutes after the doors opened.... just four or five photographers hanging around. Grabbed a name-tag, met people as they came..... Normally Meet and Greets are total madness - hundreds of people milling about, everyone is shooting, flashes going off left and right. You are tripping over cords - You are in someone's shot - You never get to meet everyone that you want to..... but because I was there early, I could pace it. More than anything, I was just excited because people knew who I was.... Models kept coming up to me and telling me how they look up to my work, Photographers asked me about my travels and where I am headed next, I had a few people come up to shake my hand, and gasp a little and go, "I never thought I would actually meet you".... It was soooo sillly and soooo frgggggin coool !!!

Forgive the little gloat there - it was just nice not to be lost.... among all the tall, long legged, brunettes strolling around.... the place was full of the prettiest little things you've ever seen... just check out the bartenders in that photo right there - that is right, they are bartenders in corsets.... ha

"Keep the Blog...."

Perhaps I will keep the blog. But all the best stuff ..........is everything I cannot talk about. It is the stuff that you'd drool to hear about.... the boys in my life, the strange photographers, the bad scenarios, the fruitcakes, the guys who lose their undies, the photographers who smell like giant turds.... the bros, the hoes - that kind of thing. If you have to come to any conclusion about me (not counting traveling and being nekkid, those are a given) - you should have noted that I enjoy a good story. When I edit everything on here - I delete everything that would be the basis of a story worth reading... it bothers me to no end. But with that said.....

Let me catch you up with what I have been up to....

Staying in St Petersburg right now, at a photographer's place - He must think I am a lump... ha, I never move off the guest bed...... Lounging in his extra room, bra and jeans, windows blacked out, messing on the computer all day. Wandering off for a shoot once a day or an occasional sight-to-see, but I come right back to this little black hole...

The other night, I strolled over to a little bon-fire, lawn party..... Twenty minutes after introductions, someone stuck a beer bottle in one hand and a bottle of hair dye in the other, "Think you could dye my daughter's hair, lovely young lady?" So I did, next to the little bon-fire, a few hounddogs hanging out by my feet, bunch of people talking small town things that I couldn't really follow.... they rewarded me by finding a bunch of marshmallows to roast on bbq skewers. That first marshmallow is always so good...

Car broke down - Had to be towed..... I was shooting wrestling match at a hotel, the car died pulling into the parking lot. Shuttered, Shook, and Died beneath me.... it was too late at night to have it fixed. Luckily it happened while I was working with wonderful accommodating photographer. He gave me his suite for the night.... I got to deal with the tow trucks and the repair shops at 10am... instead of 10pm. Thank you Dr Chin! The car needs about $900 worth of work on it, much of that cost going towards a new oil tank (which is leaking) - but before I get the work done on it, I am going have it have it looked over one more time at a different shop... from there I will figure out how to budget all that....

Today is the Tampa Bay Meet and Greet, three hundred photographers and models from all over FL will be there - shooting and hanging out at a sushi bar. I am still deciding if I want to go, though... I have done four Meet and Greets since I started.... And there is nothing I dislike more than when I introduce myself to someone and they go, "OH! It's you! I didn't recognize you with your clothes on.... yea, you look better with your clothes off...." And most of them are GWC's and they just want to shoot you with their point-n-shoot cameras. I guess I could always just go for the sushi... : ) It is in Ybor.

Ps. All the photos on here where taken in Kenosha, on a farm that was run by a girl who drove a stunt truck in the new Batman movie - months and months ago. Just got some photos back yesterday.... they need work.... but who cares...
