Juneau

Ok, I am going to keep my blogging really brief, because I just arrived in Juneau- and I have a million different things I want to do- including Mendenhall Glacier and climbing that incredibly majestic mountain right across the street.

Wifi on the Ship is totally off-the-charts stupid ridiculous - it is .75 a minute or you can buy 250 minutes for $100.... no way in hell - so I will just have to keep locating little places with internet in every port of call....
Cruises are like Disney Land.... I know I should have expected it. I mean, I am having a great time - It is a great experience and I am happy to have the chance to experience it. But is packed with empty-fun, do you know what mean by that? Tons of fun things to do - but empty? Art Auctions, Wine Tasting, Line Dancing, Jewelry Sales.... I wish that I had not been so stressed out three weeks ago - I should have just put my car on the ferry to Alaska and camped on deck with a bunch of other travelers - the scenery is so fucking mindblowing here - I want to enjoy it with people who love it with everything they have, it is so beautiful.... Been hanging out with the staff members from Chili, they are great company - we hang out after hours, I help them pick up the tables, they give me free drinks, we trade stories till 2am, it is a great time....

It sounds awesome. The shots you put up are amazing. Very jealous. Too bad about the empty-fun on the cruise. Remember, it could be worse. Great move making friends with the crew. They will take care of you, & you get some good stories. Sounds like a fair trade. What are your other ports of call?

A line from your last blog. "Things will work out because they always do". Love your optimism. Makes me wish I wasn't so much of a cynic. Have a good time!

Lets see - this cruise is going from Seattle to Juneau, Tracy Arm Fjord, Sitka, Ketchikan, Victoria Island, and then back to Seattle....

... so although I canceled Victoria for work - looks like I get to see the Island anyways. : ) That makes me happy.

Believe me, I know I get down sometimes - but things are always good and things always work out, or at least I feel they do... if you read this blog, you can see where things went completely wrong and something wonderful came out it... has happened over and over again for the last two years....

Hi London,

sounds really wonderful! Thanks for lovely pictures!
What time sets the sun up there? Does it at all get dark?

Your description of empty-fun stuff is very easy to understand, poor tourists, they don't even seem to realize that it's like that.
Compliments to You, for seeing this so very clear and distinct!( right word?)
Good to have two feet on Mother Earth!
Follow Yourself, enjoy the days!

The sun has been setting around 10pm, but it stays light until almost midnight.... really beautiful.

If I really had two feet on Mother Earth - I would not be on a cruise... if I ever did another cruise, it would be for a family vacation or something... or a getaway from a 40 hour job or something. I can see how it could be paradise - and maybe someday, I will be in the state of mind to enjoy it. But right now, my current lifestyle does not fall into cruise-line stuff - I live off such a meager budget, everything is so wastefully estravgant on the ships - it makes me angry. Also, I like having as much time as I want to do things.... I feel really rushed in all the ports, always with a deadline to get back before the boat leaves.... we should have four days in every port, that would be better. With camping trips. And hot springs... hahaha.

I swear I am having a great time - A lot of things just are going against the grain of how I usually live my life... driving me crazy.

Excuse me, didn't logg-in properly,

thanks for a detailed description of the Cruise situation have never been on one!
Sounds not too promising either!

Preferred always mc, pedal bike and tent trips around Europe.Great for low budget.
Easier for guys,I know...

Still You seem to be taking the most out of it anyway!
That's the way to do it!

Keep going!
Just try to ignore the rest and the tight scedule!

Only idiots make the same mistake twice!

I won't go with an "I told you so." :)

Next time you do it, you can take the ferry. For the record though, I suggested that you park your car in Washington at the ferry terminal and just hop on the ferry with nothing but your bag.

No matter what though, you should see some nice scenery.

London, one of the things I admire about you is that you seem to have a much clearer sense of who you are, of what works for you and what doesn't than I had at your age. Or, some days, than I do now. :)

Your comments on 'empty fun' probably resonated with a lot of readers, I think. I mean, I'm an artist, but art auctions, wine tastings- Yeehah. :) Real fun, well, we've all got our own take on that- But it's always anything but empty, and leaves you feeling good afterward, and with good memories too.

Give me a sunny weekend to spend with my partner, and a camera to take some shots with, and I'm happy. :)

Enjoy the cruise!
